Opening of New Great Neck Station Station

Nearly 40% of all calls made to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad come from Great Neck area neighborhoods. Now that the new Great Neck station has opened, rescue squad members will be better equipped to respond to these emergencies in that heavily populated community in a more timely matter.
On Saturday, November 8, the Great Neck station hosted a dedication and open house event, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours of the facility and presentations by key leaders. Speakers included Rescue Squad Captain David Whitley and Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Foundation Board President Will Sessoms. A gift of appreciation was presented to David Wade, Virginia Beach Fire Department Division Chief.
The new facility includes 15,000 square feet of state-of-the-art rescue equipment with living facilities, including a health and fitness area and Langhorne Hall, a spacious meeting room that will be available for use by the community. Until now, rescue crews have shared quarters with Oceana Fire Station 8, also located on Bayne Drive.
“Given the increasing amount of traffic in the area and the necessity to be on-scene quickly in an emergency, the value of an enhanced rescue squad building in this location is critical,” says Rescue Squad Captain David Whitley.
The building’s proclamation states that the new facility will have “an unquestioned impact upon and become a tremendous asset to the entire community...”
The Great Neck station is located at 1243 Bayne Drive in Virginia Beach.
